Project Mystery 91_Magnetic Dance, explores the relationship between technology and culture through a series of performances in collaboration with artists from Greece, Japan, and France. The technology for the project was developed within the framework of the HAL research project of the Department of audiovisual Arts at the Ionian University and is presented here for the first time in autonomous, large-scale works.

Among the projects featured in the HAL ArtBox, which ran between 27 and 29 September, was an installation that introduced visitors and conferees to the metaverse version of the Ionian Islands Film Office. This virtual extension of the F.O.  was created in collaboration with HAL’s Gamification node, coordinated by Associate Professor Yannis Deliyiannis.

The fifth international conference Taboo - Transgression - Transcendence in Art & Science will take place September 27–29, 2023 in Valletta, Malta. Approximately 170 speakers from more than 30 countries focused (a) on questions about the nature of the forbidden and about the aesthetics of liminality, and (b) on the opening of spaces for creative transformation in the merging of science and art.

Another part of HAL’s innovative and expansive work was made public last week, as the Ionian Film Office’s metaverse edition was presented in its entirety, on May 18, by the Ionian Islands Prefect Ms. Rodi Kratsa, and Drs. Ioannis Deliyannis, Associate Professor, and Iakovos Panagopoulos, film director and researcher at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University. Ephorate of Antiquities, Ms. Diamanto Rigakou, Corfu’s Deputy Mayor, in charge of European Programmes Ms. Panagiota Tzanne, and Director of the Ionian Film Office, Ms. Angela Krokidi were also in attendance.

This installation welcomes visitors to a room where silence illuminates the space and noise plunges it into darkness. A luminous square formed on the floor by LED strips identifies the position of the microphone providing the required security to the visitors in blackout conditions.

Dronecote was presented at the 10th S.ARCH International Conference on Architecture and the Built Environment, which took place in Berlin from 4 to 6 April 2023. The field of study is the adaptation to the special characteristics of the Region of the Ionian Islands. The research project 'Dronecote' is implemented within the framework of the HAL project, a research hub of the Ionian University.

The year 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Greek-born pioneer composer and thinker Iannis Xenakis, and is accompanied worldwide by events dedicated to his memory and work. To honour this Greek-born musician, a marathon concert takes place at Athens Conservatory, on Saturday 17 December, presenting works inspired by his musical work and his reflections on science and technology and the role of muscles in society and the arts. This event, which takes place at the Athens Conservatory from 7 pm until 3:30 am the following day, features musicians and artists from ten different countries (Greece, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Japan, Mexico, England, Ireland, Germany, Turkey, United States).
