Vassilis Komianos

Vasileios Komianos received his B.Sc. in  Informatics and Telecommunications from the Department of Technology of Informatics and  Telecommunications, Technological Educational Institute of Epirus, Greece. In 2013, he received his M.Sc. in Informatics, in the subject area of information systems, from the Department of  Informatics, Ionian University, Greece and in 2017 his PhD in Digital Cultural Heritage from the same Department under the supervision of Associate Professor Konstantinos Oikonomou. His PhD is mostly focused on content personalization approaches in cultural heritage environments where various approaches depending on the considered type of environment (real, virtual, mixed) are designed, tested and evaluated. His current research interests include immersive applications (virtual/augmented/mixed reality) on arts and cultural heritage, smart tourism applications and assistive technologies in the smart cities context. 

During his PhD research, Vasileios Komianos studied numerous aspects of the digital cultural heritage field including implementation approaches for cultural heritage virtual environments, cultural information management and dissemination systems, content recommendation and personalization approaches, navigation issues in cultural heritage environments and space topologies for automated design of personalized cultural exhibitions. An important aspect of his PhD research is focused on cultural route recommendations provided by custom developed route planning algorithms. In addition, supplementary studies were focused on: (i) virtual and mixed reality applications; (ii) museums’ design for exhibitions of virtual and mixed reality applications;  (iii) mixed reality open-air museums; (iv) virtual reality festivals; and (v) plans for adoption of augmented reality technologies in galleries. 

Vasileios Komianos has wide work experience by participating in EU and national funded development projects and by providing research and development services for the private sector in the field of informatics and digital cultural heritage. He has work experience as a software developer in: (i) e-government applications; (ii) cultural heritage applications; (iii) geographic information systems and services; (iv) agricultural field. Moreover, he has work experience in information technology, computer networks and telecommunications services in business environments.
