Dr. Panagopoulos holds a Ph.D. from the School of Electrical Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. His thesis was entitled “Identification of the writer of ancient Greek inscriptions and study of the style that archaeological finds were made of, using novel algorithms of pattern recognition and image processing”. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Artificial Intelligence & Information Analysis Laboratory (Department of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). He has received both an ICCS (Institute of Communication and Computing Systems) Scholarship, (2005-2008) and John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation Grant for the original research project “Writer identification of ancient Greek inscriptions”. His scientific field is Pattern Recognition in Visual, Artistic and Cultural Applications. His research interests pertain to Application of Digital Signal Processing and Pattern Recognition in Archaeology-Heritage, Arts and Cultural Heritage, Digital Image and Audio Processing, Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence.
